About us

Hi, thank you for visiting my website. Feel free to have a nosey around and ask any questions. I am Clare Hartland-Brown MBE and I am the owner of Betty Bee Bakes.

I have always baked. I learned from the best! From a young age I remember standing on a chair at the kitchen worktop next to my Gran, my Nan or my mum, helping to measure the ingredients, stir the bowl, or (the best bit) lick the spoon at the end.

I started Betty Bee Bakes in 2016, after a couple of years of being part-time in my other job, to accommodate childcare. I had been inspired by a fellow baker who had taught me some cupcake decorating skills on a day course. She had started her own business whilst on maternity leave, and the seed was sewn for me.

I love cake! I firmly believe that cake is suitable for all occasions and a piece of cake or a cupcake will make anyone feel better. I create beautifully soft, moist, delicious cakes and for me, it is as much about taste and flavour as it is about decoration. But I also think a spectacular-looking cake is so memorable, particularly at a wedding. So I work hard to create cakes that meet your expectations in taste and style.

I am based in Old Windsor, Berkshire, but I am happy to travel across the Home Counties and West London to bring you your dream cake.

Why Betty Bee Bakes – my daughter is Elizabeth. When she was a baby I thought her name should be shortened to Betty. I’m still hoping this, but five years on she is still most definitely an Elizabeth! Bees (industrious little fellows) and Baking just seemed to fit (I like a bit of alliteration). She is a trainee baker in the making (but don’t worry, I don’t let her loose on any of my orders).

I am ably assisted by my husband Chris, who is my emergency shopper, delivery driver, official taster and master of the constructive criticism and reassuring praise in equal measure.

Why do I have MBE after my name? I was lucky enough to be awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours 2019 for my work in Preventing Modern Slavery (the day job). A total contrast to making cakes. If you have a google, you will no doubt find out some more!

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss your cake with me. I’m always happy to talk about cake!

Thanks,

Clare
